Watch the 2011 Masters online

The 2011 Masters golf tournament will begin Wed. April 6th with the annual Par 3 challenge, then the major championship will start on Thurs. a.m. It seems like there are not as many storylines this year going into the PGA Tour's biggest event of the year (other than that Tiger has a girlfriend). Since Tiger's "funk," TV ratings for golf have been down, needless to say. And Mickelson hasn't been the same ever since his wife's battle with cancer. BUT, it is still THE MASTERS and I will be watching it in it's entirety online.

I found a software that gives access to a bunch of online channels. I mainly use it to watch sports online because it has an abundance of those. But, it does have movies, TV shows, history, news, weather, entertainment, and a lot of channels that I would never even care to watch.

There are no recurring fees, so it works great if you just want to watch this year's PGA tour events. I've found that watching it on my computer is quite convenient, especially in the first 2 rounds on Thursday and Friday while I'm at work.

Really, there are no requirements to get it up and running. You just need a PC or Mac then a high speed internet connection, and you are good to go.

The only bad thing I found out was that some of the movies channels didn't work very well, but like I said I'm only using it for sporting events anyway.

How I watch the Masters online

I love to watch golf, and the Masters is by far my favorite major tournament on the PGA. There have been so many great historic performances at this tournament over the years. Like Jack Nicholas re-inventing himself as a contender in his mid 40s or Phil Mickelson's comeback on the back nine to claim his first major victory, and Tiger Woods's chip-in on the 16th hole and eventual victory over Chris DiMarco in sudden death. The list goes on and on.

Unfortunately, I have missed several of these memorable shots and performances because I was not able to watch the tournament because of work or just didn't have access to a TV at the time of the tournament. Let me tell you, it is completely frustrating knowing that your favorite PGA golf tournament is in progress, and you are stuck somewhere where you can't watch it.

So, I started looking for ways to watch the Masters live online. I was pleasantly surprised to find an option that works perfectly for me. I created this blog to help others that might be away from their TV during the tournament find a good way to watch Tiger, Phil, Padraig, Sergio, and all the other pros compete during the "Super Bowl" of the PGA.

To watch the Masters live online you will need two things:

1. A broadband Internet connection (DSL, Cable, etc.)
2. A software program that allows you to watch live TV online

Most people can access a computer that is connected to the Internet these day, so that should not be an issue. Secondly, you need to download a software program that will give you access to the golf tournament live.

The program I use is called Satellite Direct. It is easy to use, and I have never had any kind of problem with it. I shared it with my golfing buddies, and they thanked me.

Another great benefit of this program is that there are no monthly or recurring fees. You know how you have to pay for cable or satellite subscription every month? Well, this is not like that. In fact, if you wanted too, you could cancel your cable TV because you'll be able to watch anything online that you watch on TV. Think of hundreds of dollars you could save. Also, if you are outside of the USA then this works really well. I know sometimes the options are limited outside of the USA, sometimes.

The only bad thing that I've discovered about this software is that it does not work with dial-up Internet. So, sorry dial-up users.
